Job Summary

As a Senior Underwriter on the A&H team, you will perform the financial and underwriting support tasks needed to support the Business Unit.

Responsibilities

  • Individual will focus on underwriting new and renewal Accident and Health products, including BTA (Business Travel Accident), Participant Accident, Student Accident, Study Abroad, Supplemental Health while promoting responsible growth and profitability.

  • Responsibilities include new business production, renewal retention and the overall profitability of an assigned book of business, including oversight of assigned product lines.

  • Underwriting management and servicing of assigned MGA programs.

  • Working with Strategy and Development team on complex underwriting submissions and new programs.

  • Assist in development and implementation of new technology tools.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key staff, sales team, and client partners;

  • Coordinate with support teams in Finance, Actuarial, Claims and Compliance;

  • Collaborate with Underwriting AVP’s in support of New business and renewals;

  • Collaborate with Product Development in development of new Accident & Health insurance products, including Supplemental Health and Individual products.

  • Train and mentor new hires and junior underwriters.

  • Regularly meet with brokers and agents, and insureds to present and represent the business unit’s interests.

  • Prepare and analyze Underwriting experience and reports;

  • Ensure that underwriting products and practices are in accordance with appropriate regulatory requirements

  • Ensure proper auditing guidelines and timeframes are adhered to for internal and external programs.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, Business Degree preferred

  • 5+ Years Accident & Health Insurance Experience

  • Proficiency in Excel and database organization

  • Analytical, with ability to think through issues;

  • Exhibits leadership potential

  • Exemplary oral and written communications skills;

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • Customer focused with attention to detail

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Keen attention to detail, organizational skills, sound judgment, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize a heavy workload to meet agreed upon expectations in a dynamic and results oriented environment

For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

80,000 - 108,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above range may be modified in the future
