Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Operational Services, The Assistant Vice President, Underwriting Operations Manager oversees the implementation of operational strategies by managing daily underwriting operations that support Ascot. As part of the Operations leadership team, this role involves coordinating with cross-functional departments and collaborating with our outsourced provider to ensure service-level agreements are met. The position demands strong leadership, dedication to excellence, and a service-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team of underwriting Operations Specialists, including 2 direct report leaders and 16 indirect specialists, across 5 business units.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard operational technical staff to support Ascot’s operational needs.
  • Manage the day-to-day back office operational activities and performance of the team (including and not limited to clearance, binders, policies, endorsements, cancellations, renewals, non-renewals, and reinstatements)
  • Monitor team quality, productivity, and service levels to ensure adherence to service level agreements.
  • Optimize staff utilization, capacity and capabilities to avoid disruptions in underwriting operations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, savings, and quality.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical support for solutions to operational issues.
  • Communicate with the outsourced team regarding workload distribution, quality of work, process revisions, and exceptions.
  • Collaborate with underwriting leadership to align operational support with their needs and enhance service efficiency.
  • Maintain business relationships with carriers and brokers, ensuring timely and accurate external reporting.
  • Partner with our Systems team to implement process and technology solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal resources (e.g., Underwriting Finance, Actuarial, Data, Claims, Underwriting, IT, etc.) to coordinate delivery services to clients and provide ad hoc support.
  • Embrace and promote The Ascot Way by fostering engagement, collaboration, inclusivity, and accountability within the Operations management team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 – 10 years of specialty insurance experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in an operational leadership role.
  • Experience in underwriting data analysis, activity monitoring, and reporting.
  • Preferred background in change and process management.
  • Proven expertise with underwriting core systems; including Salesforce, IMS, and ODEN Policy Terminator is a plus.
  • Highly collaborative, with strong communication skills across all organizational levels, including executive management.
  • Strategic thinker with a proven ability to manage detailed tasks effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance and prioritize competing projects and deliverables.
  • Must be able to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven corporate setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Compensation

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus, and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company.

The annualized base pay range for this role is: New York - $125,000 - $150,000.
