Underwriting Governance Analyst
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
As part of AXIS’s ambition to provide the most modern and sophisticated approach to underwriting, we have established an Underwriting Governance team within the CUO Office. The Underwriting Governance team will be responsible for oversight and administration of the AXIS UW Governance Framework which includes all Underwriting Authorities Guidelines and Protocols, as well as Post Bind Reviews.
The key goals for the team are to ensure that our Governance Framework:
• Enables profitable growth while controlling our UW Risk.
• Is highly efficient and allows Underwriters to maximize time spent on high value tasks.
• Allows us to handle complex and unusual risks, giving clarity about which experts need to be consulted and quick feedback on what we need to make the risk acceptable to AXIS
What will you do in this role?
This role will report into the Head of UW Governance as one of a small number of direct reports but will also involve working closely with dotted line UW Governance Business Representatives across the firm. This role will include a focus in Insurance business and colleagues based in North America (with Reinsurance and Global Markets already having specialists) but the team will collaborate on all business as we build out a single Enterprise-wide Framework.
The main responsibilities of this role include:
Supporting the Head of Underwriting Governance in designing and implementing a new UW Governance Framework, spanning all lines of business, including Underwriting Guidelines, Policies and Authorities, as well as Post Bind Reviews. This will include:
Analysis and documentation of existing Governance Framework(s) in place across AXIS.
Needs analysis for the most efficient and effective UW Governance Framework for individual Lines of Business within AXIS.
Working with Technical Experts to define specific Guidelines and Referral triggers.
Working with BTS and others in developing systems and tools as required to efficiently implement the UW Governance Framework into day-to-day UW activities.
Management and administration of the new UW Governance framework once implemented (and during transition) with exact responsibilities to be defined as part the design and implementation of the new UW Governance Framework. This is expected to include:
Administration and documentation of high-level referrals
Training Underwriter in specific aspects of the Underwriting Governance Framework.
Assisting Underwriters in interpretation and application of the Underwriting Governance Framework
You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.
About You:

Required Skills and Experience:
Broad knowledge of insurance products, underwriting governance and common issues in insurance contract wording is required. Detailed knowledge of any specific line of business is not required, but successful candidates will have enough knowledge to be able to discuss complex and detailed issues with experts with minimal support.
Preferred Experience (preference would be a combination of the following roles):
Direct knowledge of AXIS internal systems and processes as relates to Underwriting
Time spent as an Underwriter, or at least close collaboration with underwriters on a day-to-day basis. Implementation and/or administration of Underwriting Governance Systems (or similar controls), including working with developers to design and implement such systems
Ability to work effectively with various levels throughout the organization
From time to time, you may be required to travel for business to an office for meetings, presentations, training, etc. that may last one to several days and at a frequency as determined by your manager.
Solution oriented, able to analyze a complex set of requirements from a variety of stakeholders and define simple solutions that satisfy all parties
Excellent communication skills, including traditional written and oral skills but also the ability to make a web-based Governance system highly intuitive to the user.
Excellent project management / organizational skills
For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of 130k to 190k. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.
