North American Property team

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Global Property Underwriter will act as a representative within established guidelines to enhance the global position of AXIS on the North American property team. The candidate will be responsible for helping to manage the current book whilst developing new business opportunities, making recommendations based on their underwriting knowledge and expertise.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prospects new business targets and opportunities. Develops and manages a pipeline for prospecting new business, targeting of established and lapsed business relationships.

  • Reviews and evaluates new business opportunities business based upon company underwriting guidelines, competition, and geographic focus.

  • Underwrites an existing and renewing book of business.

  • Works closely with distribution partners to ensure AXIS is shown acceptable risks. Make strategic recommendations.

  • Meets established underwriting team servicing objectives related to quote turnaround, policy issuance, account and renewal management, file maintenance and documentation.

  • Analyses and underwrites individual risks. Develops appropriate limit structure, retention, pricing, and endorsements within underwriting guidelines.

  • An understanding of CAT Modelling outputs and using these results to help guide but not dictate underwriting decisions (AIR preferred)

  • Continues to develop and update product and underwriting knowledge.

  • Participates in special projects and department initiatives at the request of manager.

  • Business travel may be required from time to time to meet these responsibilities.

  • Assist in training and management of more junior team members.

  • Confidence to meet individually with clients and be able to articulate the Global Property Team’s appetite for risk.

  • Keeping up to date with market conditions, market trends and being able to adapt these to day-to-day underwriting

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • Highly motivated self-starter who can quickly assess marketplace opportunities, analyse, and assess those opportunities for the benefit of AXIS and its clients

  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in property underwriting/broking

  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical skills and proven ability to align business analysis with departmental strategy

  • Ability to establish broker relationships

  • Attend individual client meetings on behalf of AXIS

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS & CAPABILITES:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal/communication skills, and strong marketing abilities
