CapSpecialty is seeking a Senior Underwriter in our Environmental department to provide an advanced level of underwriting analysis to their team. The risks and exposures evaluated are generally complex and require critical thinking and creative coverage solutions. The Senior Underwriter demonstrates excellent underwriting skills and a detailed knowledge of rates, forms, pricing strategies, terms, conditions and relationship development and management.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Triage submissions select appropriate risks and quote new business opportunities to meet production and profitability goals. Thorough underwriting analysis and review of applications, loss runs, company websites and additional information required to prepare indications and formal quotes. Communicating decisions to our business partners and reviewing referral items with manager on an as-needed basis.
- Underwrite, review and process renewal business as needed to support the in-force book. Assure renewal submission data is received, is complete, and prepare renewal terms and conditions that are adequate for the risk and exposures.
- Management and development of business partners within the product space. Evaluating business partners on a subjective and objective basis in order to ensure they are performing at an acceptable level.
- Assist business partners with inquiries regarding coverages, pricing, endorsements, and other account servicing matters. Work closely and collaboratively with the Service Team and Operations Management to continuously provide and improve efficiency and customer service.

- Knowledge of pollution insurance products, insurance contracts, basic accounting, risk management techniques, and state regulations.
- Skill in communicating verbally and in writing; skilled in using the internet and multiple software programs.
- Ability to think clearly and quickly, work independently and efficiently, as well as work with others to analyze and problem solve.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field or risk management, Environmental Science preferred.
- Minimum 4-7 years of professional underwriting experience with strong emphasis in environmental liability: site pollution liability, contractor's pollution liability, storage tank liability, general liability, and excess liability.
- Experience in assisting with the development of guidelines, forms, rates, and applications.
- Completion or continuing work towards Certification in CIC, IIA, CPCU, or other programs approved by leadership.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Additional hours and/or work outside normal business hours may be necessary. Travel may be required.
- May be required to lift up to 10 lbs. at times.
