The Associate Underwriter will report to the Vice President of Underwriting in the Bail section of the Surety Division at Core Specialty Insurance to assist with oversight of bail agency force and the underwriting of bonds in excess of an agent’s established underwriting authority. The position will be responsible for follow-up with agents to ensure required collateral items and premium are received, conduct annual on-site agency audits and take after hours on-call duties as need.

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

  • Perform within set timeframes to ensure appropriate response time and customer service for agents.

  • Communicate with claims and processing teams as needed.

  • Take initial underwriting calls related to bond approval requests and intercompany postings.

  • Take underwriting calls after hours as needed.

  • Conduct on-site agency audits as needed.

  • Take on travel assignments as needed.

  • Assist with file preparation and research related to regulatory complaints.

  • Maintain accurate and timely status of accounts within systems throughout the underwriting life cycle.

  • Pursue professional development and training for development of product knowledge, skills for the role and any personal goals set with leader.

  • Responsible for effective operation of internal controls and timely closure of Internal Audit and other actions

  • Ensure actions taken by agents are within the Company’s established Underwriting Guidelines.

  • Undertake general office administrative duties as and when required.

  • In addition to the above key responsibilities, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as the Company may reasonably require.


Technical Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Computer skills – good working knowledge of MS Office, Excel

  • Ability to simplify, analyse and explain complex issues.

  • Ability to review processes and determine opportunities for improvement.

  • Ability to work at both an overview and detailed level.

  • Ability to manage time and projects effectively


Experience:

  • Undergraduate Degree preferred.

  • Prior insurance experience preferred.
