Position Summary: As an Underwriter with Hudson Management Liability (HML), you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal Private/Not-For-Profit business with one or more of the following coverages: Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary and Crime. Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to, underwriting new and renewal business to help drive the profitable growth of our management liability, private not-for-profit group through regular contact and communication with brokers. You will assess the desirability of risk through a detailed underwriting analysis including close coordination with Hudson subject matter experts, financial review, and reviews of claims history and general company information. Building a strong relationship with brokers will be key to your success. You will need to provide excellent service to brokers through a consistent, timely, and proactive approach to underwriting. You will also aim to generate new business by expanding your broker network, attending broker events, and building new relationships across the market.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Build and maintain a profitable book of management liability business in his/her assigned region
  • Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
  • Underwrite efficiently while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with an ability to multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity
  • Maintain awareness of the competitive environment and risk profile of his/her assigned region
  • Collaborate with both the immediate team and other product line teammates
  • Structure tailor-made solutions by considering the team underwriting parameters and underwriting policy and using underwriting knowledge and experience to win new business and retain existing business

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Minimum 2+ years of Management Liability underwriting experience within the Private/Not-For-Profit market segment
  • Strong analytical skills with proven aptitude in making expedient, sound, and thoughtful decisions
  • Demonstrate strong underwriting quality and profitability through appropriate risk selection and documentation
  • Solid time management and efficiency; including organizing, multi-tasking, and prioritizing.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to pivot between team and individual goals
  • Ability to establish and cultivate meaningful relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Strong computer proficiency and capability to produce tangible results in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills

Education/Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required
