The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines, and participate in special projects having an impact on the business.

What you'll be doing:

  • Underwrite a book of business including Financial Institutions’ risk management D&O and FI blend lines and Commercial D&O lines for a client base of Fortune 1000 firms;
  • Understand and analyze the financial condition of insureds, including analysis of the Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Statement of Cash Flows;
  • Negotiate with brokers on program structure, premiums, retentions and terms and conditions;
  • Meet outlined objectives related to quote/binder turnaround, policy issuance, renewal management, file maintenance and documentation;
  • Assist with the analysis of coverage and contract language based on industry accepted policy forms;
  • Take lead role in client/underwriter meetings (in-person or remotely) in order to quantify and assess inherent risks and exposures;
  • Maintain up-to-date familiarity with economic and legal factors impacting the FI and D&O portfolio and the overall insurance industry;
  • Assist in management of book rates, aggregate exposure and other aspects of book performance;
  • Cross-sell opportunities to existing customers through the promotion of the Company’s products and services;
  • Participate in projects that have an impact on the business and actively keep your knowledge and skills up to date through courses and seminars where appropriate.

What we're looking for:

  • A minimum of two years’ current experience in underwriting for professional liability; a recent focus in Financial Institutions Professional Liability product lines would be beneficial;
  • Four-year degree in business or related field from an accredited University/College;
  • Experience with industry accepted policy forms and strong working knowledge of applicable endorsement wordings;
  • Strong customer service focus and interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively, and excellent negotiation skills;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent problem solving/decision making abilities;
  • Solid understanding of financial statements;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Strong work ethic ;
  • Must be a team player and able to work independently as needed.
