Specialty Lines Energy Underwriter Senior

Key contributor to emerging Energy Underwriting Property team.   Responsible for account underwriting, presentation, sales and revenue growth for assigned clients primarily in the renewable and conventional energy segment.  Evaluates, quotes, accepts or declines risk within established binding authority.  Prepares quotations/proposals on new business and renewals.  Reviews, analyzes and quotes to ensure proper pricing, coverage and compliance with HSB Underwriting policy and standards.  Adheres to strict follow up procedures on quoted business.  Acts as a training mentor for team members and works with Underwriting, Business Development, Operations, and Engineering.  Handles customers with most complex risks.  Performs client and customer visits with Client Manager.  Travel at least 2 times per year visiting 6-10 customers each time.




Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Risk Management or Finance or equivalent work experience
  • 5 + years’ experience preferably on an Underwriting team
  • P&C, Mechanical or Facilities Engineering experience is a plus
  • CPCU, ARM, ARe or other industry designations are a plus

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent underwriting, marketing and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of energy all-risk underwriting.  Ability to understand machinery and equipment exposures and coverages
  • Working knowledge of CAT modeling including RMS
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Manage and prioritize workload
  • Relationship building in the marketplace
