We have a great opportunity to join our team as a Corporate Underwriting Manager
Purpose:
Oversee the workflow and key deliverables for Corporate Underwriting activities thereby ensuring that the fundamental tenets of Quality Assurance and Risk Management are realized throughout the Pricing & Underwriting Division.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Maintains and oversees the company’s Underwriting Management Ecosystem as it pertains to a) composition of the current portfolio; b) underwriting strategies for target portfolio; c) underwriting authorities in line with underwriting competencies; d) quality assurance processes; and e) referral requirements to manage the portfolio.
- Conducts Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) Reviews to ensure users of DUA are making business decisions in accordance with the level of authority granted.
- Oversees annual Large Deal Referral analyses for distribution partners who have $35mm or more in Written Premium and/or $100mm or more in catastrophe exposure in order to mitigate accumulation risk.
- Serves as the Pricing & Underwriting Division liaison for all regulatory compliance requests received from the Legal & Compliance department to include Market Conduct Exams and ad hoc requests from other departments which entails working cross functionally with: Legal/Compliance, Product, Underwriting, and Customer Service to resolve regulatory inquiries.
- Serves as the subject matter expert for Line Underwriting thereby ensuring program partners operate within our underwriting risk tolerance relative to risk identification and mitigation of underwriting/operational/strategic risks to include testing controls that pertain to underwriting business decisions.
- Directs and develops Quality Assurance and Risk Management activities in an effort to drive business optimization throughout the Pricing & Underwriting Division thereby facilitating an overall effective risk and control environment.
- Completes Due Diligence Risk Assessments on New Program Partner opportunities thereby ensuring the New Program Partner operates within the company’s underwriting risk tolerance.
- Serves as the Team Leader for the annual Business Continuity Plan for the Pricing & Underwriting Division which includes core process identification for each department in the division in cooperation with IRM.
- Creates and maintains department Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitors and maintains the Corporate Underwriting department budget which includes monitoring expenditures, and approving fund usage for non-personnel expenses.
- Ensures the companywide Underwriting Strategy remains updated and reflects the organization’s underwriting risk appetite including the annual monitoring of all Delegated Underwriting Authority Letters of Authority for internal associates & external agency partners.
Required Technical Skills:
Advanced experience with MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
Education, Certification, & Designations:
Bachelor’s degree with a major in business, management or related area with additional insurance and management related coursework or competencies gained through Underwriting, Audit or Finance experience.
