The Underwriting Assistant will work a hybrid schedule from our Avon, CT or Las Vegas, NV, or Remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting underwriting through a variety of functions that include new business and renewal policy set up, account coordination, report ordering, data collection and information follow-up.
  • Reviews information in insurance applications to help make initial determination on risk acceptability
  • Review rating for accuracy from rating vendor for assigned Underwriter(s).
  • Inputs account information into MGA management system.
  • Proficient in rating and policy issuance based on binding conditions.
  • Promptly handles various requests from Agents and/or Underwriters through phone and written correspondence.
  • Works directly with agents to resolve problems and issues.
  • Manages account documentation (i.e., proposals, internal risk evaluation documents, etc.).
  • Responsible for handling high volumes of transactions.
  • Provide back-up for others in the department.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Works on special projects as needed or assigned by UA Team Lead and/or Manager

Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and other database software.
  • Working knowledge of insurance coverages, procedures, and rating.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Preferred: Familiar with NCCI and Workers Compensation independent rating bureau websites and rate, rule, and form manuals.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years in the property casualty insurance industry.
  • Policy Service background with emphasis in Workers Compensation.
  • Experience with: Agency Management Systems, various Policy rating and issuance systems; (IMS, Insurity, Policy Decisions a plus).
  • Working knowledge of WC Rules/Forms, Proof of Coverage and WCPols reporting, ODEN and other various 3rd party Underwriting rating and risk assessment apps/tools.
