Responsibilities

As an Underwriter, you will apply practical knowledge to make risk bearing decisions on behalf of the company. You will work closely with team leads and managers to execute underwriting activities that align and support the company’s underwriting strategy. You will also be responsible for completing various underwriting operations tasks, and identifying and implementing solutions to support and uphold our brand promise of delivering a “Ridiculously Fast, Amazingly Easy” customer experience.

As an Underwriter, you will fulfill the primary responsibilities of the role by executing the following:

  • Review and evaluate new and renewal workers compensation accounts to determine approval or denial of risks
  • Effectively determine premium rate in alignment with our new business and retention plan goals
  • Manage your daily responsibilities and competing priorities to be accountable for delivering results
  • Complete data analysis to drive results and improve efficiencies and quality in processes and product offerings
  • Generate and present data metric driven solutions to underwriting business problems
  • Identify issues and thoroughly vet the scope of the issue to determine action plan for resolution
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional project teams
  • Regularly communicate progress of project work to the department and company leadership team
  • Partner with department leadership to focus on resource development and allocation for various projects
  • Assist leadership where needed in department planning and budgeting process

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in the insurance industry preferred
  • Workers’ compensation background preferred
  • Ability to make decisions incorporating diverse perspectives
  • Excellent prioritization, planning and organization skills
  • Strong customer orientation including strong interpersonal, communication and consultation skills
  • Ability to manage and influence in a cross-functional matrix environment
  • Strong discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills coupled with a strategic and “big picture” mindset
  • Proven record of setting delivery commitments and meeting expectations

Education

  • CPCU, ARM, or other relevant insurance designation preferred but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree

Travel Requirements

  • Low level of U.S. domestic travel required (up to 5% - 10% of time)
