Zurich North America is hiring an experienced Financial Institutions Underwriter-AVP in New York
As a AVP- Financial Institutions Underwriter, you will handle complex new and renewal domestic Middle Market for all Financial Institutions industry verticals and lines of coverage offered. As a member of Zurich's underwriting team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with select brokers focused in the region. With more than 125 years of experience, Zurich has a broad and varied appetite for Financial Institutions business; this role is an exciting expansion opportunity allowing for high growth potential and visibility & support.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Collaborate with regional Financial Institution underwriters, helping them to achieve yearly financial, developmental, and personal growth goals.
- Partner with Industry Practice Leadership, Middle Market Managers, Regional Underwriting Leaders, and underwriting staff across the region to provide support and develop tactics on portfolio management, influencing strategic underwriting decisions to ensure productivity, financial profitability, and underwriting goals are met.
- Handle referrals on all lines of business that are outside of field authority, with collaboration with FI IP or line of business on a per risk and portfolio management basis.
- Referral partner on Professional Services risks requiring empowerment.
- Coordinate portfolio and account-specific renewal strategies.
- Execute agency-specific marketing strategies through consistent visibility in the region, establishing myself as a lead relationship manager to agency partners.
- Collaborate with field leadership to help develop talent and coach underwriters in various areas of expertise, with a focus around building and enhancing sales and technical skills amongst the regional underwriting teams.
- Collaborate with FI underwriters in the implementation of sustainable pipelining practices in the region to drive growth over a multi-year period.
- Collaborate with international, complex casualty, financial lines, and cyber underwriters to increase product density and deepen insured relationships.
- Thought leader for new product development, trend recognition, profitable opportunity identification, and market expansion.
- Participate in industry events and associations as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, or Market Facing area, Accounting, Banking, or Risk Management.
OR - High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
OR - Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing area, Accounting, Banking or Risk Management.
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
AND - Experience with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- Advanced knowledge and practice of line/s of business
- Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
- Ability to effectively assess risk
- Ability to work in a team-based environment
- Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
- Strong presentation skills
Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Other rewards may include short term incentive bonuses and merit increases. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The salary provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. The starting salary range for this position is $150,000.00 - $205,000.00.
