Underwriting Manager- Management Liability, Private- AVP

Zurich is currently looking for an Underwriting Manger to lead our Private Management Liability Team of Underwriters from New York. We are focused on attracting top customer advocates who possess a sales mindset, strong technical underwriting skills and solution focused problem-solving abilities. You will be expected to travel as necessary to support the needs of the team and to cultivate key broker relationships within the region (15-20%). This is a critical role in driving an engaging team culture.

 

Responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Manage market facing underwriters who proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
  • Identifies new growth opportunities with key distributors for areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure cross-sell within areas of responsibility to increase product density with the account.
  • Provide continuous coaching
  • Mentor staff to develop strong broker and client networks as related to industries underwritten by the Private Management Liability team.
  • Identify market trends and coverage's exposures that may impact business results. Work with actuarial to insure a proper rate / price structure.
  • Manage relationships with producers by conducting line of business, book of business, class and segment analysis to ensure profitability and growth.
  • Review agency books of business as well as profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans.

 

This role will be filled at either the Associate Underwriting Manager level or the AVP, Underwriting Manager level.

 

The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position

 

Basic Qualifications, Associate Underwriting Manager:

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

 

Preferred Qualifications, Associate Underwriting Manager:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • 6 months or more of supervisory or management experience
  • Established broker relationships
  • Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating
  • Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation

 

OR

 

Basic Qualifications, AVP, Underwriting Manager: 

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • 2 or more years of management experience
     

Preferred Qualifications, AVP, Underwriting Manager: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong underwriting acumen of management liability products with the private, non-profit sector
  • Retail Broker relationships the Northeast region
  • CPCU
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent skills in relationship building and presentation skills
  • Results oriented

 

Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.  As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles.  For additional information about our Total Rewards, click here. Other rewards may include short term incentive bonuses and merit increases.   Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The combined salary range for this position is 130,000.00 - $215,000.00. The starting salary range for the Associate Underwriting Manager is $130,000.00 - $175,000.00 and for the AVP, Underwriting Manager is $165,000.00 - $215,000.00.
